One of the things that makes me nuts living out in the suburbs is how the bar is lowered. Restaurants. Shops. So one of the things I want to do in this blog is feature spots that are just plain good. Not “good for here”.
It’s fitting that Maplewood Mercantile is the first place I’m going to write about. It’s in my town. And it’s a collaboration between 3 really good stores. Each have a different personality, but they all complement each other. Total good vibes.
Salvage Style has vintage goods and furniture. The owner Amy has a great eye – this is a store I’ve been shopping at for years. It’s nice to see her have a lot of space to flex those styling muscles! MEUS is a lifestyle/home shop with really good handmade items. Think great textiles and natural materials. She carries a line of jewelry I was coveting in ABC so even though I can’t afford it, I was so so happy to see it nearby. And she has other, really beautiful items in a range of price points. Last but not least, MADA (Mothers and Daughters) is mostly clothes, some new some vintage. She started carrying Maryam Nassir Zadeh and I thought I was going to pass out (in a good way). I was in the other day and bought some Korean face masks and earrings. Fun.
Here are some pics. And you should go check them out. So happy they are around. Maplewood Mercantile. 145 Dunnell Rd, Maplewood, NJ 07040.
